Kevin Durant Exits Suns’ NBA Cup Clash with Spurs After Ankle Sprain

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant suffered a left ankle sprain during Tuesday night's NBA Cup game against the San Antonio Spurs. The injury occurred late in the first half when Durant appeared to step awkwardly after a contested play, twisting his ankle before falling to the floor. Despite briefly continuing to play—hitting a jumper and taking free throws—he was subbed out with just under four minutes left in the half and did not return for the second half. The team quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game, with early evaluations confirming a sprain.

Durant’s performance before the injury included 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists in 16 minutes. This was just his fourth game back after missing time due to a calf strain. The Suns, dealing with multiple injury concerns this season, saw a brief resurgence but now face uncertainty regarding Durant’s availability as they compete for NBA Cup placement .

This marks yet another setback for the Suns’ Big Three, as both Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic have also missed time recently due to injuries. Beal returned for the Spurs game, but Nurkic remains out. Phoenix has struggled to maintain consistency amid these challenges, holding an 11-8 record .

Durant's sprain will likely sideline him for at least a couple of weeks, pending further evaluation. The Suns’ medical staff will monitor his recovery closely, as his presence is crucial for the team’s aspirations in both the NBA Cup and the regular season .
